UPDATED: SJPD Deputy Chief Glen McCloskey Testifies At The Oland Trial

A packed courtroom at the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland with Deputy Chief of the Saint John police Glen McCloskey taking the stand following bombshell testimony from a retired officer on Tuesday.

The jury has heard from retired Staff Sergeant Michael King that before or during the preliminary inquiry McCloskey, then Inspector, suggested that King lie about McCloskey being in the crime scene. Asked what he would say to allegations that he is saying this about McCloskey because he was turned down for Inspector and was bitter, King saying that is false.

McCloskey testifying about July 7, 2011 – the day Richard Oland’s body was discovered – saying he went into the crime scene a second time out of curiosity. He testified at 12:35pm the door leading to the alleyway on the second floor was open, but he does not remember the status of the door when he first arrived at 10:52am. He says he entered through the door and went outside.

McCloskey being asked about retired Staff Sergeant Michael King being requested to attend a meeting at Boston Pizza and then going with a man to the end fo Millidge Avenue near the yacht club. McCloskey saying that, “I do remember receiving a call at my home, something to do with Boston Pizza, and can say it was a high level RCMP investigation and wouldn’t be able to say any more about it.”

He does say that it is unrelated to the Oland case.
