Recent Raids Could Help Solve Moncton’s Growing Meth Problem

Recent drug busts in Moncton could be the first step to eliminating a growing problem in the city.

Councillor Charles Leger brought up his concern at the last committee of the whole meeting.

“We don’t talk a lot about what’s been happening in our city but we have a rise in crystal meth and the use of that particular drug,” Leger says.

He says the volunteers at Harvest House have noticed more aggression among users who go to the shelter, which is one of the long-term psychological effects of meth use.

“Some claim 95 per cent of people who try it once, are hooked. That’s huge,” says Leger.

RCMP raided five locations last week as part of an investigation into possible drug trafficking in Moncton, Fredericton and Woodstock .

Police seized quantities of drugs believed to be methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as several firearms and cash.

Jesse Todd Logue is charged with two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and will return to court on Tuesday morning.
