RCMP Looking Into Community Watch Mobile App

An app called Citizens On Patrol is being used in cities all across Canada , and Moncton might soon be one of them.

Codiac RCMP Constable Christy Elliott calls it a digital version of neighbourhood watch.

Unlike neighbourhood watch, residents can report suspicious activity anywhere, at any time.

The app has been used in a number of cities across Canada for decades and provides consistent and efficient data collection of reports from volunteer watch members.

“If they see something that seems out of place they would log into this app and press one of the options to explain what it is they’ve seen, perhaps a stolen vehicle or graffiti. This app tracks where they are and where they’ve dropped a pin to identify the issue,” says Elliott.

The Citizens on Patrol app would be a community-led program that lets volunteers report suspicious activity.

Constable Elliott says they are currently researching the program to find out if it would be a good fit for the community.

She adds that they are also trying to figure out who would be in charge of monitoring the app.
