Professor Says Gallant’s Inexperience May Pose Challenges

It’s moving day in Fredericton.

Premier Brian Gallant and his new cabinet were officially sworn in yesterday, and there’s some rearranging going on in the New Brunswick Legislature.

The Liberals are taking over the government seats and the Conservatives become the Official Opposition.

Gallant is also the youngest premier ever in the province and Chair of Political Science at St.Thomas University Tom Bateman says that may pose some challenges for the new leader.

Bateman says inexperienced premiers typically refer to higher level advisors and he believes that will likely be the case here.

Bateman says he has heard that Gallant is a quick study, but he will have to act fast to get up to speed because the problems in the province are big and diverse.

During Gallant’s first official address yesterday as the premier, he stated that he knows this new government has difficult decisions ahead of them but he believes they will be up to the task.
