The Chief Economist at B-M-O Doug Porter says he would like to hear more talk from Premier Brian Gallant about how he’s going to reduce the provincial government’s deficit..
According to Porter, provincial deficit and debt are both high in relation to the size of the New Brunswick economy. Gallant has said one of the challenges the new Liberal government faces is getting the province`s finances in order but he hasn`t been specific.
Porter says the lower value of the Canadian dollar should help boost the provincial economy and fiscal restraint is no longer part of the Harper Government’s lexicon now that a provincial election will be happening next year.
