PANB Wants NB Liquor, Cannabis NB Privatized

The People’s Alliance of New Brunswick is renewing calls to privatize NB Liquor and Cannabis NB.

It comes as the president and CEO of the Crown corporation, Brian Harriman, prepares to resign in early April.

In a news release, PANB leader Kris Austin says the government will stand to gain far more than it loses if the process is done properly.

“The province should realize a huge increase in revenues taking its money directly off the top in the form of a flat tax,” said Austin.

Austin said the money could go into general revenue to inject resources into healthcare, senior care and education.

He also said the government has shown it is not skilled at running businesses, pointing to “staggering losses” Cannabis NB has seen in its first few months of operation.
