November 15, 1941 – July 13, 2026
Roberta “Bobby” Pollock, 84, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at Havenwood Seniors Home after a long, full life on Monday July 13, 2026.
The daughter of Robert and Laura (Steeves) Morton of Moncton, Bobby’s curiosity, intelligence, and determination were evident from an early age. After graduating from Moncton High School (‘58), she pursued a BSc (Honours) (’62) and MSc (’67) in Biology from the University of New Brunswick as well as a BEd from Mount Allison University (‘82). While at UNB she discovered her passion for biology and teaching and started her career as a lab technician and instructor, first at UNB, then at the University of Alberta, Dalhousie University, and finally at Mount Allison University (1984 – until her retirement in 2000).
While at UNB she met the love of her life, Tom. Together they built a family and travelled across the country. Bobby and Tom also found a partnership that lasted 51 years — a true team in every sense of the word. Tom was often the public face of their many community projects, but Bobby’s tireless work behind the scenes made so much of their shared success possible. Whether organizing registrations, managing finances, solving problems, or quietly ensuring that every detail was taken care of, she was the engine that kept things running.
Bobby believed deeply in giving back. She devoted countless hours to volunteer work that strengthened her community, from helping build youth soccer in Greater Moncton to supporting Diabetes Canada, Tantramar Seniors College, and devoting 50+ years to the Canadian Federation of University Women. She didn’t seek recognition, although, at times, it found her, including being named New Brunswick Volunteer of the Year by the Canadian Diabetes Association. Throughout her long life, she was dedicated to helping others whether through volunteering, teaching or just being kind in everyday situations. Even after death she wanted this to continue and as a final act she donated her body to Dalhousie Medical School for education. Her greatest reward was knowing she had made a difference.
Above all, Bobby was kind. She possessed an extraordinary generosity of spirit, giving freely of her time, knowledge, energy, and encouragement. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends; someone people could always count on. She celebrated the accomplishments of others with genuine joy, though no one’s achievements brought her more pride than those of her children and grandchildren.
In her last 5 years, dementia gradually changed Bobby in ways that were heartbreaking to witness. For those who knew her, perhaps the greatest loss was seeing a woman of exceptional intelligence slowly robbed of the curious mind that had guided her throughout her life.
Her life reminds us that true greatness is often found not in the spotlight, but in quiet competence, steadfast loyalty, boundless generosity, and a lifelong commitment to making the lives of others just a little better.
Bobby will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children; Jamie Pollock of Moncton; Beth Pollock (Scott Taylor) of Norris Point, NL; and grandsons Connor and Ian Taylor; brother-in-law and sister-in-law William and Linda Pollock of Edmonton, AB; several cherished nieces and nephews; cousins; friends; former colleagues; and a grateful community that is better because she was part of it. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Tom, brother Don and sister-in-law Carol (McKinley) Morton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026 at 3:00 pm followed immediately by a reception. There will be an opportunity for friends and family to share memories and stories during the Celebration. Visitation with the family will take place Tuesday, July 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Fergusons Funeral Home. Interment will be at Riverbank Cemetery, Apohoqui at a later date.
