Michael Gallant

1957 – 2026

Mike Gallant, of Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on May 30, 2026. Born February 23, 1957, in Charlottetown, PEI, Mike was the oldest of five children born to and raised by the late Donald and Marilyn (Smith) Gallant.  In 1981 Mike married Tracey (Leggatt, Chatham, NB); together they built a life in Riverview, NB and raised two sons.

Mike spent his entire working career with the same company, retiring in 2021 after 40 years as Atlantic branch manager for H Paulin Co. Ltd (later acquired by, and becoming a division of, the Hillman Group). Mike was an avid harness horse racing fan and thoroughly enjoyed his summers spent golfing. He was an all-around sports-fan and enjoyed coaching minor sports when his sons were younger. He enjoyed reading hard-copy newspapers from beyond his region and was known to disapprove when the Globe and Mail discontinued Atlantic regional distribution some years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Tracey (Leggatt); sons Benjamin (Melissa Wells), Riverview, NB and James (Shauna Osborne), Halifax, NS; his cherished granddaughters Audrey and Victoria; his 4 siblings, Kevin (Karen), Charlottetown, PEI; Janet (Gordon MacDonald), Halifax, NS; David (Bernie), Charlottetown, PEI; Dianne (Philip McCabe), Charlottetown, PEI, as well as many other relatives, in-laws and friends. Mike was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, sister-in-law (Mae Dunn-Gallant), brother-in-law (Michael Leggatt),  father-in-law (Edward (Brud) Leggatt), and several other loved ones

He was a devoted Family man; and a loving Son, Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Cousin, Uncle, and Friend.  May he rest in peace and live on in the lives of those who love him.

A service in memory of Mike will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 1:00pm at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd Riverview (506-869-2007). Interment will take place at a later date in the Alderwood Cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. Robert Forbes and Dr. James Hudson for overseeing Mike’s Medical Care. In memory of Mike, donations made to Alternative Residences or Friends of The Moncton Hospital would be appreciated by his family.
