Lorraine Després

1943 ~ 2026

On August 16, 2026, at the age of 83, Lorraine Després (née Vienneau) passed away. She resided in Dieppe. Daughter of the late Sylvain and Marie-Anne Vienneau of Dalhousie, she leaves to mourn her beloved husband, Arsène Després, as well as her children Guy, Anik, Gaëlle, and Sylvain.

She also leaves to mourn her grandchildren Camille, Simon, Mathieu, Éloïse, Jocelyne, Abigail, Philippe, Frédérike, Raphaëlle, Vincent, Lili and Rosemary; her brothers Rhéal, Donald and Hector (Junior); her sisters Jeanne (Arseneault), Marie (Haché), Rachel (Doherty) and Cécile (Haley); as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Three sisters: Yolande, Aline and Anne, as well as two brothers: Hector and Jean-Paul, predeceased her in death.

Lorraine was a deeply warm, generous, and caring person. She fulfilled several of her dearest dreams: travelling around the world, living in the countryside on a farm, raising sheep, and then transforming their wool by shearing, spinning, and weaving it with her own hands.

In her forties, she returned to her studies to fulfill another big dream: attending university. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Ottawa.

Passionate about the arts, travel, nature, culture, and learning, she nurtured an insatiable curiosity throughout her life. Her magnificent flower gardens, her love of artistic creation, and her constant desire to learn new languages, including Russian, German, Arabic, Polish, and Swahili, made her a fascinating, cultured, and inspiring person.

A great optimist, Lorraine knew how to recognize the beauty of nature, the good in things, and the kindness in others. Thanks to her husband’s diplomatic career, she had the opportunity to travel and live in several regions of the world, including Yaoundé (Cameroon), Warsaw (Poland), Vienna (Austria), Geneva (Switzerland), and Tunis (Tunisia). Wherever she lived, she took an interest in local cultures, forged genuine connections, and enriched her understanding of the world.

Her smile, her gentleness, her great generosity, her empathy, her warm welcome, her curiosity and her love of life will leave a lasting mark on the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Saint-Pierre de Cocagne Church (2000, Route 535, Cocagne) followed by a funeral service in the church at 11:00 a.m.
