March 17, 1937 – March 29, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Murray at Shannex Ocean Hall on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Born in Atholville, John was the beloved son of the late Patrick and Dalphine (Guitar) Murray.
John was a skilled and dedicated carpenter who took pride in his work. He had a lifelong passion for cars, always buying, selling, and maintaining them in immaculate condition. Enjoyed looking for unexpected treasures at yard sales. He also loved horses and often reminisced about his younger days spent on a farm.
Music brought him great joy, especially Johnny Cash and Stompin’ Tom. John always enjoyed a good card game of 500 with his family. Nothing brought out a bigger smile than a fist pump from his great-grandsons. He cherished his daily routines—reading the newspaper, enjoying a coffee and cigarette while walking around outside. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering and repairing things for his family. John had a well-known sweet tooth, with ice cream being his absolute favorite. Those who knew him will never forget “the claw,” his signature playful squeeze with three fingers, whether on the shoulder, arm, or knee—always delivered with a grin, even if it stung a little. John will be remembered for his character, humor, and stubbornness.
John will be missed by his loving wife Margaret Murray (Layton), his children Bob (Wendy), Mike (Karon), Susan (Bill), Marie-Anne (Fred) and Carol; sisters Delores and Velda; brothers Paul and Robert; grandchildren Cynthia, Shawn, Christina, Stephane, Michelle, Mark, Crystal and Kevin; great-grandchildren Latesha, Katie, Devari, Blake, Mahliah, Dylan, Zach, Oliver, Owen, Madison, Celina, Percy, Alana and Satara; great-great-grandchildren Benji and CJ.
Along with his parents John was predeceased by his brothers Edwin, Nelson, Jimmy, Rene, Colman and grandson Daniel.
To celebrate John’s life there will be a Sharing of Memories held from Fergusons Funeral Home Reception Centre, 1657 Mountain Rd. Moncton, NB (506-858-1995) on Saturday, April 4, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
