Gertrude Elaine Briggs

September 15, 1940  –  February 18, 2026

Gertrude “Gertie” Elaine Briggs, 85 of Lutes Mountain, NB, surrounded by the love of her family, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Born in Joggins, Nova Scotia she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Brown) Stephens.

In 1998 Gertie retired from the National Defence Supply Depot #5 in Moncton with several years of faithful service. She was a former member of Stilesville United Church, avid bowler in the Steeves Hillside Bowling League at Fairlanes Bowling Centre an active member of Centennial Lawn Bowling Club. Gertie enjoyed dancing, baking, playing cards, cooking and was always on the go socializing with her family and friends.

Gertie will be sadly and deeply missed by her loving children, Sheila Wilson (Larry) of Riverview and Gary Briggs of Stilesville; cherished grandson, Cody Wilson; sisters, Beatrice Stubbs (Bruce), Barbara Perry (late Carl) and Sharon Wright (late Jim); brothers, Al Stephens (Chella) and Bruce Stephens (Norma); dear friend, Arnold Armstrong; several loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Gertie was predeceased by her husband, Aubrey E. Briggs (February 10, 2011).

Relatives and friends are invited to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) for visitation on Tuesday, February 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A Service to Celebrate Gertie’s Life will be held from Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 11:00 am with Rev. Jacob Shaw leading the Service. Reception to follow in the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment to be held at Stilesville United Church Cemetery in the spring.
