A thirty cent increase in the minimum wage may not sound like much, but a spokesperson for the Common Front for Social justice says it’s a great first step.
Premier Brian Gallant announced last week, that New Brunswick’s minimum wage will increase to $10.30 on December 31st.
Provincial Coordinator for the Common Front Jean-Claude Basque says this is makes the province more competitive, and employers should be happy with the change as well.
He says, “Having a minimum wage that is competitive means that there is more of a chance of keeping the employees that they have right now. There’s less turnover, and there’s less need for training and rehiring.”
This is the first minimum wage increase for New Brunswick since 2012.
