Mayor Mel Norton has reiterated Moosehead’s assurances that the laying off of 70 unionized employees doesn’t mean the iconic brand will be fading from the Port City anytime soon.
Norton says the company warned him “some time ago” that job losses of this nature this might happen.
The Mayor says this is a good reminder than business Saint Joh is connected to the rest of the world, and we need to remain competitive.
A lot of buying power will be removed from the local economy when these layoffs take effect because the jobs being cut pay 29 dollars an hour.
