Lobster Fishermen To Leave Alma At Midnight In Search Of Bountiful Catch

Lobster fishermen are getting the boats loaded today in advance of their launch from the wharf in Alma.

This launch, that takes place at midnight, draws international attention and often more than doubles the usual population of the small community.

Event Coordinator Jane Chrysostom says celebrations are held each year before the launch.

“It’s a lively celebration of a devotion to the industry, because the lobster industry, it’s huge and it goes all over the world, and it draws people from all over the world to Alma.”

She says the festivities are to wish the fishermen “Good luck” for their safety and with the hopes of a bountiful catch.

Lobster boats will be out for 12 to 48 hours.
