A Tight Race and An Extra Day May Explain Advance Poll Voting Numbers

Why did so many Canadians feel motivated to vote this weekend?

UNB Saint John Assistant Professor of Political Science Dr. J.P. Lewis tells us the length of the campaign, a tight race and four full days for the advance polls would all be factors in the impressive tournout at the advance polls.

Lewis also notes that social media gives people who are motivated to vote more access to information.

He says in a close election the get out the vote component is so important to parties.

Lewis says national polling gives us this snapshot of what’s happening across the country but we often don’t really know what is happening at the local level.
