Anglophone East DEC To Vote Tonight On New School For North End

A vote will be held tonight to decide whether or not a new K to 8 school or grades 6 through 8 would be best suited to alleviate overcrowding in the north end of the city.

The Anglophone East District Education Council received around 56 comments from residents in the North end of the city, many with suggestions on how the problem can be fixed.

Chairperson Tamara Nichol says after tonight’s vote, the next step is to send the recommendation off to the province and the Education Minister will make the final decision.

She hopes to have the final decision from the province in December or January.

If the province chooses to build a new school, the process to build it will take at least three years. The district says it will do its best to come up with a plan that will have the smallest disruption on students in the north end.
