KV Memory Project Gets Contribution From Quispamsis Council

A group of students and a teacher in the Kennebecasis Valley are breathing life in history, as one put it, as they research and write a book recounting the stories of men and one woman from the area killed in WWI and WWII.

It’s called the KV Memory project and each of the students are assigned soldiers and given their soldier file from the Canadian Archives.

KVHS student Elise Vaillancourt is researching an airman killed in battle named Charles Thomas Smith. She tells us what started out as a 50-page military file really turns into a person that lived in the area, saying she drives by the place he lived every day.

Liz Trecartin, also a student at KVHS, says in the classroom they have to memorize dates and death tolls but through this research they are putting war into a different context, one that is more personal and engaging and not so distant and foreign.

A group hug was had outside of the council chambers in Quispamsis after the announcement that the town would be contributing $1000 to the KV Memory Project. The book will be about 300 pages long and they are hoping to have 200 copies printed at a cost of $5000. They also want to produce a film to go along with the book.
