Is Sitting A Lethal Weapon?

It’s been said – sitting down destroys your body. People with jobs that require them to be seated have twice the rate of cardiovascular disease then those who stand. However, there is a movement in progress to try and change that behavior. Health Promoter Kerry Copeland says there are ways people can avoid sitting for long hours. She says, “If you have phone calls, get into the habit of standing up, if you need to email a co-worker, why not visit them instead, get off the elevator three floors early and walk up the last sets of stairs, even set your alarm once an hour so you can get up and move.” People who sit for more than six hours a day are at a greater risk for long-term and short-term health problems. Copeland says it doesn’t need to be an aggressive exercise, but people should try to be walking or standing up at least once an hour.
