Richard Saillant is the Director of the Donald J. Savoie Institute in Moncton and he has received a lot of attention after saying Atlantic Canada is headed for financial ruin unless big changes are made.
The Atlantic Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Kevin Lacey says he’s not as dire at that but still the trajectory doesn’t look good unless governments in the region get their spending under control.
He points out the recent New Brunswick budget increased spending by 300 million dollars at a time when the Gallant Government was talking about making tough choices and is why raising the H-S-T won’t serve to balance the books.
