The first feminist and openly gay member of congress to be elected in Guatemala will be speaking in Moncton.
Sandra Moran is a longtime activist for LGBTQ rights and women’s rights in the Central American country.
Moran will be talking about the struggle for human rights in Guatemala which has a sad history of armed conflict.
Anthony Valles, an organizer of the speaking event, visited Guatemala this spring.
He says we take a lot of basic things for granted here.
“You don’t have free access to the water or easy access to the food, there is always some kind of fighting,” he says.
Sandra Moran will be speaking at the Moncton Public Library on Wednesday, June 20th at 6pm.
The event is free and is being hosted by MAGMA, River of Pride and the PSAC Human Rights Committee in Moncton.
