The Dairy Farmers of New Brunswick is a group which is not happy about the province’s decision to stop selling chocolate milk in schools starting this fall.
Chairman Paul Gaunce says he understands the idea of wanting to remove sugar from a child’s diet but he’s disappointed by the decision.
Gaunce feels the nutritional value in chocolate milk far outweighs the small sugar content in it.
Gaunce says regular milk contains 12 grams of sugar while chocolate milk contains 26 grams of sugar and he adds kids are drinking pop and energy drinks which are inundated with sugar.
In an effort to curb obesity, Gaunce is suggesting kids may need more physical activity.
He says both farmers and processors will be lobbying the province in an effort to reverse the policy on chocolate milk.
