Fredericton Police Warn Of Apartment Rental Scam

The Fredericton Police Force is warning the public about an increase in reported fake ads on Kijiji for apartment rentals.

Over the last few months, police say victims are being asked to provide a rent deposit before seeing the apartment.

The deposit was made either online or in person, and in every case no vacant apartment was ever available.

In some cases, police say the address advertised did not even exist at all.

In many cases the alleged renter with with prospective tenants in person, under an assumed name.

Authorities believe there may be more vicitms of this type of fraud.

Anyone with information is asked to come forward to the Fredericton Police Force, or Crime Stoppers.
