Now that cannabis has been legalized, what are the next steps for the federal government?
Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor says keeping youth safe is a priority.
“My first responsibility is really the protection and safety of Canadians, and especially children when it comes to this regime,” says Petitpas Taylor. “So moving forward for me, I certainly want to make sure we continue our efforts in public education and awareness.”
Many are wondering why the rules and regulations differ from province to province.
Petitpas Taylor says municipalities and provinces should be able to make up their own mind.
“Ottawa should not be telling municipalities and provinces exactly what works best for them, so we certainly wanted to allow the provinces, and some municipalities to put in place what works for their municipalities.”.
She adds a reminder the rules and regulations for consuming pot, vary from province to province.
Petitpas Taylor says ID is always required to ensure no one under the legal age is being served.
