Fire Causes Extensive Damage To Abandoned Home In Dieppe

Two house fires kept Dieppe firefighters very busy since early this morning.

At around 2am this morning, they were called to the Memramcook area, to assist with shuttling water in for a house fire.

Then at around 4:30am, District Chief Marc Cormier says they were called to an abandoned home on Champlain Street near the airport, “We got the call from a neighbouring house that the flames could be seen coming from the first floor and the second floor and then the attic.”

Cormier says, they did a search of the home first, to ensure there was no one inside, “Firefighters provided assurance that the first and second floors were cleared of occupants, and once that was done we decided to exit the structure because it was no longer safe for the firefighters. At that point, they switched to defensive mode and focused on getting the fire extinguished.”

He adds that the home is total loss, “Because it was an abandoned building, now with the damage and because it is unstable, we are going to make a recommendation to the Owner and the City make arrangements to have the home demolished.”

There’s no word on a cause yet.
