Fire Breaks Out At Southeast Correctional Centre In Shediac

Smoke has been seen billowing from the Southeast Correctional Centre in Shediac this afternoon.

Officials with the provincial Department of Justice and Public Safety confirm a fire started at the jail around 3pm.

The fire occurred in a non-offender housing area of the jail.

Officials say there were no injuries to staff members or offenders who are currently in a safe staging area.

Fire and police are on scene.

The department goes on to say security is contained and there is no threat to public safety.

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
