Moderate Drought Affecting Central NB

A moderate drought is affecting central New Brunswick while the rest of the province is abnormally dry according to Agriculture Canada.

For that reason, many residents who have their own wells are welcoming this week’s rain.

Val LeBlanc, owner of Eastern Well Drillers, says some older wells have gone dry and many others may be having problems.

“If it doesn’t resolve itself this year, they could still have a problem next year. That means not necssarily a drought but they could have a low producing well or a low pump setting and so on,” he adds.

With winter coming, LeBlanc says lots of snow may be a welcome sight to help the drought unless we have an early freeze-up which could prevent rain and snow melt from getting into the ground.
