In Atlantic Canada and beyond, many doctors, nurses and emergency responders are looking to provide help in Ebola-stricken West Africa despite the panic and misunderstanding surrounding the raging epidemic.
Dan Bedell of the Canadian Red Cross tells us most of the recruiting so far has been done in larger cities.
“Well, we’re really just getting underway with the recruitment effort for doctors and nurses,” says Bedell. “We have several who have past experience with deploying with our field hospitals, like in Haiti and the Phillippines last year.”
Bedell says crews are also receiving training on what to do if an Ebola outbreak happens in Canada.
The Red Cross is also attempting to recruit skilled tradespeople like plumbers and electricians to assist with the Ebola response.
