“Sweetland” Is Heartbreaking, Suspenseful, Darkly Funny

The mystery, romance and tragedies of the Maritimes are something that few authours can adequately capture – but Newfoundland writer Michael Crummey tackles just those themes in his new novel, Sweetland, which deals with a small community that has been in crisis since the cod moratorium of 1992 when all the young people left to find work.

He tells us we rely heavily on storytelling in the Maritimes to get a sense of who we are, and what it means to live here.

Crummey won a Giller Prize for his novel River Thieves. Sweetland is available in stores now. You can read more here or purchase the book on Amazon here
