Black Smoke Fills Air Because Of Aulac Fire

Firefighters are currently battling a large blaze on Bayview Drive in Aulac.

It started just before 10am this morning, in a fabrication shop, where they do welding.

Deputy Chief for Pointe du Bute Fire Jeff Dixon says there were some tires on the outside that began burning as well, and the fire is producing a lot of smoke.

He says, “We’re working to extinguish the fire. We have the building on lockdown at this point and we’re trying to get all of the fire out.”

A caller to our station says the smoke is crossing the highway and it is making it difficult for some motorists to see. Reports on Twitter say the smoke can be seen for up to 20 kilometres.

Dixon says the smoke is not a risk to area residents.

They expect to be on the scene for awhile.
