Residents of Dieppe will see a municipal property tax increase of one percent next year as the city adopts a $66.8 million operating budget.
For an average home in Dieppe valued at $185,000 that will mean an increase of $19.
The water and sewer bill will also rise next year with an average increase of $12 expected.
Mayor Yvon Lapierre says the city must be careful going forward with major projects planned including replacing the Centenaire Arena, a funding contribution for a new Codiac RCMP building and the upcoming Games of the Francophonie in 2021.
Lapierre says the tax increase will allow the city to reduce its debt ratio and create reserves for the future.
He adds a new middle school at the end of Dieppe Boulevard has changed the city’s priorities with trails being created near Belle-Foret Street and Melanson Road to provide safe walking spaces for students.
Several road projects are planned including repairs to Industrial Street and the extension of College and Alain-Gillette Streets.
