No Municipal Tax Hike For Riverview In 2018

The Town of Riverview has held the line on municipal taxes after formally approving a $28.4 million operating budget for 2018.

However, water and sewer rates will be going up next year by about $29 for the average household.

A provincial freeze in property tax assessments next year will mean a loss of $300,000 for the town.

Mayor Ann Seamans admits this was a challenging year but the budget keeps the town on a path of fiscal responsibility.

Capital investments include reconfiguring the Gunningsville Bridge and Coverdale Road intersection amid work on the Causeway and a six month shutdown expected in 2020.

This project depends on a financial contribution from the province.

The town also intends to carry out various water and sewer improvements and will continue to make upgrades to the Byron Dobson Arena.
