The next phase of the project to replace the causeway linking Moncton and Riverview with a new 240 metre steel girder bridge is getting underway.
This phase is about replacing the aging river gate structure and realigning the river channel at an estimated cost of $14 million.
The entire project comes with a price tag of $61.6 million, of which $27 million is coming from the province, and the remainder from the federal government.
Federal Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard Dominic LeBlanc says this project supports long term prosperity for the region and protects the local fish population.
He adds it is a major step towards addressing environmental issues that have affected the Petitcodiac River for five decades.
The provincial government also announced they were partnering with the Town of Riverview on a $1.9 million project to add lanes and upgrade the intersection at Route 114- Gunningsville Bridge and Boulevard.
The plan is to help alleviate traffic congestion during the bridge and channel contstruction.
