Lung Association Likes New Legislation To Regulate Vaping

The New Brunswick Lung Association supports changes coming with the passing of Bill S-5, new legislation that will ban the sale of vaping products to anyone under the age of 18.

It also bans the promotion of vaping to products to young people or children by using dessert or candy flavours in vaping liquids.

Barbara Walls, the director of health promotion with the New Brunswick Lung Association, says they’re enthusiastic about any progress they make with the provincial or federal government.

“What we’re up against a legalized addiction and they [companies] have a lot more money than we do. When we can make strides, or we can change things, this is good.”

Walls says mandating the plain and standardized packaging and increasing the health warnings are really significant steps especially when it comes to protecting youth.

She says when you smoke a tobacco product, you are inhaling 5,000 chemicals, 50 of which are carcinogenic.
