A team of local cheer athletes are in Ontario this weekend, with the hopes they’ll come home champions.
Olympia All-Star Cheerleading’s Junior Level 1 team are the first team to compete in Niagara Falls in the Club’s history.
Co-Owner Lorraine Cail-Byron says the 17 members of their team will be amongst the almost 400 teams competing, “When they win, they’re going to bring home that title, that banner and jacket. We’re very anxious to see and we’re very excited for them. This is a great team that has been winning.”
It is an event that attract cheer enthusiasts from across the country, “There’s going to be about 1500 to 2000 athletes in Niagara Falls, ages 4 to 40 competing.”
Cail-Byron says this is not a sport that is just about cheering for others, “These athletes, have tumbling and gymnastic skills as well. They are primarily girls, but there are some boys. The courage they, the confidence they and the determination. This is true and true, a sport. You will even see cheer at the Olympics in 2024.”
