Dr. Jennifer Russell has been selected as New Brunswick’s new chief medical officer of health.
Russell had been serving in the role on an interim basis since 2015.
Health Minister Benoît Bourque says Russell has a great deal of experience in public health and medical knowledge that will bring a new perspective to the position.
Fluently bilingual, Russell obtained her medical degree from Memorial University in 1999 before completing the family medicine residency program at Dalhousie University.
Russell has previously worked in the addictions and mental health field and also served as a medical officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Former chief medical officer of health Dr. Eilish Cleary was terminated by the Gallant government in 2015 in what was called a personnel matter.
