No Cross Border Travel Permitted With Cannabis: Feds

In just over a week, recreational use of cannabis will be legalized in Canada, but crossing the border with some is not.

Senior government officials say it’s illegal both entering and exiting the country, regardless if you’re travelling to and from areas that have legalized or decriminalized the drug.

The ban on cross border pot even applies to those who use cannabis for medicinal purposes.

Officials add each country or territory decides who can enter or exit their borders, and the Canadian government cannot intervene on behalf of travellers if they don’t meet entry or exit requirements.

Officials say travellers have a responsibility to learn about the laws and regulations of countries they intend to visit.
