Fire Extensively Damages Downtown Business Overnight

A business on Main Street has been extensively damaged, after a fire overnight.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says they got the call at around 2:30am this morning.

A passerby called 911 and reported the fire at Auto Indulgence on Main Street, and firefighters arrived to heavy black smoke coming from the building.

Bruens says they faced some challenges when battling the blaze, “There are twelve cars inside, but it was a great save because we kept the fire contained to two cars. There is also a paint refinishing business inside the building, so we were challenged with a lot of the paint materials and solvents. The building has been extensively damaged inside.”

There were 18 firefighters on scene and they were there for around two and a half hours.

Bruens says, even with the danger of the vehicles and painting materials, they follow the same protocol as they do for any fire, “They conduct a 360, and determine the safest area we can fight the fire. Usually the furthest we can be away from the fire and the greatest amount of water that we can use to fight the fire is the greatest practice.”

Bruens says fire investigators are working to determine the cause today.

Meantime, while Moncton fire was on scene of the fire on Main Street, a second call came in for a fire at in a car beside a home in Painsec Junction.

Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says it was found a car fire beside a home.

Moncton firefighters from the Caledonia station managed to get it extinguished quickly, and there is just minor damage to the home.

No one was hurt.
