A Fredericton man travelling to a picnic with his wife last spring came across a burning vehicle on Highway 105 in Douglas.
Naveed Majid of Frederiction tells us a man managed to get out of the cab and was facedown in a ditch so he and another man moved him away from the truck while hot debris fell all around them.
He says they got him to the top of the ditch and by then another person came along to help them get him over the top of the guardrail.
Majid says he and Earl Leblanc and others were recently honoured by the Canadian Red Cross with the Rescuer Award for their role in saving a life.
They have never met the man they saved but he did recover.
