Codiac RCMP is recommending you be careful with what kind of trash you leave visible for curbside pickup.
Sergeant Andre Pepin says some thieves will look through trash for packaging indicating expensive electronics like new tvs, computers or gaming systems.
“They can be looking what you have in your garbage and they could be telling them you got something new in your house and it could be a good place to go and break in,” says Sergeant Pepin.
He says there are steps you can take to decrease your risk of being robbed.
“You can try to destroy the box and put it in a garbage bag so we don’t see the box and what the thing is exactly,” says Sergeant Pepin.
He says since he has been here Greater Moncton generally doesn’t see an increase in thefts or break and enters around the holiday season, but being cautious could save you from trouble.
