Dalhousie Medical Students are taking part in a new kind of practicum this year in Greater Moncton.
Dr. Marc Blayney is the clerkship director for the Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick program.
He says the traditional clerkship sees students spend 6 to 8 weeks following a doctor at a hospital, getting a snapshot of medical life.
“They never really got a chance to get to know the city that they were working in… the important things about that city and whether or not they might like to go back to that city,” he notes.
Dr. Blayney says this new clerkship places each one of 6 students with a family practice here for 48 weeks and have them learn about patients, their diseases and really learn about Greater Moncton.
