In a press conference this afternoon, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson described his sadness and anger over the ongoing situation in our Capital–but emphasized that “anger will not rule the day.” Watson emphasized the capital has faced tragedy before, and are capable of doing it again now.
Deputy Major Christopher Coates noted the situation is unfolding and many details won’t be available for some time, including the names and ages of the victims or the suspect, whether a weapon was seized, or the potential motives for the attack.
Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bourdeleau would not confirm whether there is still a suspect on the loose, or whether there were multiple shooters.
People are still being asked to stay away from downtown Ottawa, and those who are currently in the area are under lockdown.
