Country On Edge After Shooting Incidents in Ottawa

The nation’s capital remains in lock down at this hour following three shootings in and around Parliament Hill.
A reserve soldier standing guard at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier was shot point blank by a gunman late this morning – moments later shots rang out in the halls of the Parliament Building where a gunman was killed in a hail of bullets.
That was followed by a shooting near the busy Rideau Centre shopping near Parliament Hill.
Officials confirm two people are in hospital with one being treated for gunshot wounds and now there are reports the soldier has died as a result of his gunshot wounds.
The Prime Minister and leaders of the opposition parties have been whisked to safety while a number of government buildings remain locked down.
Military bases across the country have been locked down with no public access and a number of military related programs have been cancelled.
Jason Unrau spoke with our Bridgewater newsroom shortly after the first shooting – he described the situation as “intense.”
A reporter from our Moncton newsroom is in Ottawa today – he describes the police activity as very heavy with police warning people to stay away from the downtown core and windows.
The Legislature building in Fredericton has been closed and security there and at the Nova Scotia Legislature has been stepped up – meanwhile Premier Gallant is in the air on his way home from Alberta and so far unavailable for comment.
