Premier David Alward attends Council of the Federation meeting

Premier David Alward is taking a one day break from the New Brunswick election campaign to attend the annual premiers’ conference in Charlottetown.

Alward says energy development, labour training and inter-provincial trade are the top issues on his agenda as he meets with his counterparts from across the country.

He says potential jobs in the natural resource and technology sectors mean more work has to be done to ensure New Brunswickers are equipped with the right skills to capitalize on new opportunities.

“I am encouraging all provinces in the country to work together along with the federal government to harmonize our labour capacity because it is the most challenging barrier that we face for economic prosperity across our country today.”

The issue of missing and murdered aboriginal women is also expected to be on the premiers’ agenda.

Alward will return to the campaign trail on Friday and won’t be staying for the closing news conference of the meeting.
