Doreen Desmond

March 12, 1954  –  August 15, 2026

With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Doreen (Leger) Desmond, a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Doreen passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the age of 72. A truly giving person with a huge heart, she was always there to listen, offer support, and brighten a room with her contagious laugh. Her generosity, caring nature, and wonderful sense of humour will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born in Saint-Paul-de-Kent, New Brunswick, on March 12, 1954, she was the daughter of Leandre Leger and Dorice (Cormier) Leger.

Doreen shared many happy years with the love of her life, her husband Clarence “Diddy” Desmond. Together, they created the life they wanted, filled with love, happiness, and many cherished memories.

Doreen had a natural motherly heart, and that love was felt by many throughout her life. That same caring nature extended to animals as well, especially her beloved four-legged girl, Saddie, who held a very special place in her heart.

She enjoyed the simple things that made her happy. Doreen loved going to auctions and thrifting, rarely met a yard sale she could pass up, and took great pride in her landscaping. These little things were simply part of what made Doreen, Doreen.

Doreen spent her career in retail, beginning at Woolworth’s, followed by Woolco, and eventually finishing her career at Walmart. Along the way, many coworkers became lifelong friends, friendships that she treasured throughout the years.

She was also fortunate to have wonderful neighbors at Pinetree, many of whom became dear friends and an important part of her life.

Doreen will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Bernice Boucher (Paul) and Janice Goguen (Paul), her brother, Lenny Léger, her sister-in-law, Linda Rodriguez, as well as the Desmond family. She will also be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, Lisa, Diane, Ricky, Darryl, Roger, Jason, Jeffrey, and Brittany, whom she loved and cared for as her own, as well as her many great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces. To some, she was lovingly known as “Matante Walmart,” a nickname that really stuck with her over the years. She will also be deeply missed by her cousins and her special friend, Marie Fillmore.

She was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Clarence “Diddy” Desmond; her parents, Leandre Leger and Dorice (Cormier) Leger; her brothers, Roger Leger and Freddy Leger (and his son Wade); and her sisters-in-law, Gloria Leger and Linda Leger.

Visitations will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM from Fergusons Funeral Home & Fergusons Crematorium, 1657 Mountain Rd, Moncton, NB. 506-879-1388). A private family interment will be held in Saint Paul’s Parish Cemetery.

For those wishing to honour Doreen’s memory, donations may be made to the Greater Moncton SPCA or Habitat for Humanity. Alternatively, a simple act of kindness for someone in Doreen’s memory would be a beautiful tribute to the generosity she showed throughout her life. Online condolences may be shared at
