1939 – 2026
Gerry Power, age 87, of Riverview, N.B., passed away at the Moncton City Hospital on Monday, August 17, 2026 with his loving family at his side.
Born in Halifax, N.S., on January 15, 1939, he was the second oldest of 10 children of Joseph and Teresa (White) Power.
Besides working for Ford Motor Company and Imperial Oil, Gerry retired from Co-op Atlantic, Moncton in 2000, after 29 years of service as the Petroleum Department Manager. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s University, in Arts (’60) and Commerce (61’). Jerry played varsity hockey and football and was a Hall of Famer on the 1956 football team. In his youth he played hockey and baseball in the Halifax-Dartmouth leagues. He was also a member of the Moncton Golf Club and the former Beaver Curling Club.
Gerry was a devoted and active member of St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church in Moncton and performed charitable work, notably as a volunteer with the Red Cross and Canadian Cancer Society. Further, Gerry was a dedicated supporter over the years of numerous charitable organizations, locally, in Canada and abroad.
His Catholic faith was a strong influence in his life. Reserved and ever considerate, Gerry had a ready smile and generous loving spirit. His sense of humour and witty remarks endeared him to family and friends alike. His love of family was obvious and will be dearly missed by those whose lives he touched.
Besides enjoying a good time with family and friends and trips to Florida with his dear wife Norma, he enjoyed television, reading, cribbage and the computer. Gerry particularly loved to “google” for information on a variety of topics.
Gerry is survived by his son Michael (Shirley) of Halifax, N.S., daughter Susan MacDonald (Bryan) of Moncton, N.B., grandpa or papa to Meghan, Ryan and Quinn, brother to Joseph (Margie), Halifax, N.S., David, Charlottetown, PEI, Dianne Sturdy (Gordon), Halifax, N.S., Mary Lou Clifford (David), Halifax, N.S., Sandra (Gary Webster), Stewiacke, N.S., sister-in-law Cecilia Power, Halifax, N.S. and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
In addition to his loving parents, Gerry was predeceased by his beloved wife Norma (2010), infant brother Michael, sister Betty Anne, brother Bill and his daughter Tara (in infancy), sister Terry Duggan and husband Al, and sister-in-law Fran Power.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church on Botsford St., Moncton, NB with Father Damien presiding. Following the Mass a reception will be held in the church hall. Interment will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, Salisbury Rd, Moncton.
