N.B. inmate dies while serving sentence in N.S. prison

A New Brunswick man who was serving a three‑year sentence at Springhill Institution in Nova Scotia has died while in custody, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

CSC said 65‑year‑old Dominique Tremblay died on June 26 while serving time at the medium‑security facility.

The agency said he had been serving a three‑year sentence since June 12 and that his next of kin had been notified.

Tremblay, from Sainte‑Anne‑de‑Kent, pleaded guilty in October 2025 to possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The New Brunswick RCMP announced that its Internet Child Exploitation Unit began investigating the case in 2023.

They executed a search warrant at a home in the community, arrested Tremblay, and seized electronic devices.

Police said he was charged in April 2024 and later sentenced in Moncton Provincial Court.

A review will be conducted by CSC, which is mandatory in every inmate fatality.

The agency also highlighted that police and the coroner have been notified, as required under its policy.
