Tree removal and relocation in downtown Moncton

A flurry of construction activity in Moncton’s downtown.

Nine trees will have to be removed so overhead power and communication lines can be relocated from the north to the south side of Assomption between Downing and Westmorland Streets.

The City of Moncton says two additional trees will be relocated to another part of Riverfront Park, but the mature trees are too large to move.

This work is being done in preparation for more development in the downtown.

Plans for the future include raising Assomption Boulevard to mitigate flooding in the area, and new trees will be planted.

The tentative start date is on October 17 or 18.
