YMCA’s Reconnect Program Needs To Find New Home

A program which supports individuals who are homeless or at risk of being homeless is now in need of a new home itself.

The YMCA’s Reconnect Street Intervention Program had its lease terminated early (May 31) at its current location on St. George Street behind the post office.

Interim director Lisa Ryan says they need to find another location downtown.

“It’s very apparent that the downtown core has a majority of the poeple that we need to serve. All of their services are really within a ten block radius,” she notes.

Ryan say they want to find a smaller location and focus on street outreach and collaborating with other community organizations.

She doesn’t fault the landlord for ending their lease early noting how complaints about clients had been an issue and efforts to alleviate problems could not be resolved.
