Women in Atlantic Canada encouraged to join class action lawsuit against Pfizer

Women in Atlantic Canada are being asked to join a class action lawsuit has been launched against one of the world’s biggest drug companies.

Over 400 women have registered their claim against Pfizer. They were prescribed Premplus or Premarin, combined with Progestin between 1977 and 2003, to treat menopause, and they were later diagnosed with breast cancer.

Doug Lennox is a Lawyer for Klein Lyons, based in Toronto, Ontario. He says the complaint is that Canadians should have been given proper warning.

“Over 12,000 breast cancers between 1994 and 2006 are attributable to these drugs being sold in Canada. That includes nearly 1000 women in Atlantic Canada.”

This is the first class action lawsuit against a Canadian drug company to go to trial, and it’ll be the first time in thirty years that Canadians will get an inside look at what drug companies do.

The deadline to opt into the suit was yesterday, but Lennox says those affected should still contact his office for further information.
