West End Food Bank Receives Generous Donation

The needy in our community got a great boost recently with a generous donation to the West End Food Bank.

Manager Ben MacMichael says a business called Health Connect did a food raising campaign and offered the results to the West End Food Bank.

“And they asked if we would prefer the food or funds equivalent to what the food would cost,” says MacMichael. “We said yes to the funds, because we can stretch a dollar into four – we always say yes to money!”

He says they are seeing an increase in the number of people who need help.

“We just had our busiest month last month, where we gave away 7,200 meals worth of groceries,” says MacMichael. “And when I first started a busy month would have been 3,000 meals worth of groceries.”

MacMichael says summer is a lean time for them as people head off to cottages and forget about donations for a few months.

However, MacMichael says this donation goes a long way to helping the needy.
